Research summary
The sophisticated cognitive functions of the human & mammalian brain reside in complex connections of cells in the central nervous system. Understanding how neurons communicate with each other, which transmitters & receptors are used for neuronal communications & how these receptors distribute & function in neurons, remain a major challenge of modern neuroscience.
Research in our group is directed towards understanding the distribution & function of these molecules in the cerebral cortex & in their local & subcortical connections. Using quantitative high-resolution neuroanatomical methods, we primarily focus on the role of the GABAergic system in these circuits & on the roles it plays in healthy & diseased states of the brain.
