Thalamus and Cortex

In this project we study the diversity of interactions between cortex and thalamus.

Cortex forms a major input to the thalamus as well as to the thalamic reticular nucleus. Cortical inputs arise form distinct layers and form axon terminals with variable morphology and function in the thalamus. The exact role, region specificity and morphological heterogeneity of corticothalamic inputs is little understood. In this project we aim to study cortical inputs to the thalamus and the reticular nucleus using layer specific labelling, juxtacellular methods in anesthetized preparation, silicon probe recordings, 2P imaging as well as superresolution and electron microscopy.
