Tissue specific regulation of thyroid hormone action

While the HPT axis warrants the stability of circulating thyroid hormone levels, a complex machinery of thyroid hormone transporters, metabolizing enzymes, receptors and co-regulators ensures that the local thyroid hormone action meets the highly variable requirements of the different tissues.

In collaboration with the Molecular Cell Metabolism Laboratory, we have generated a Thyroid Hormone Action Indicator (THAI) mouse line that can be used to detect the changes of tissue specific thyroid hormone action in response to genetic or pharmacological manipulation or in response to physiological stimuli.

Using this mouse line, we study the mechanisms involved in the regulation of local thyroid hormone action and how potential endocrine disruptor chemical alter these regulatory mechanisms.
